Life Lately

Most of our time lately has been spend packing, but we’ve been making time for some more pleasurable things, too.

First though, two unrelated things:
1.) If you’re in the Des Moines area and you haven’t been to Cafe di Scala lately, please do yourself a favor and go soon. We hadn’t been in over a year—despite the fact that we love the place and had our wedding dinner there—and I was a little blown away by how good our dinner there was Friday night. I ordered three appetizers—lamb meatballs, polenta cakes with zucchini ragu, and a cheesy stacked eggplant dish—and we shared the antipasti platter with the most awesome fennel pickles. I completely over-ordered, but I was not sad about having leftovers to enjoy! The whole meal was off the charts delicious, and a great way to celebrate the end of our time living in Des Moines. (Sniff.)

2.) The So Pretty! Felt blog tour is still going on, so check out the latest posts and chances to win yourself a copy right here.

Okay, back to the post at hand.

Above is our Jonathan apple tree that we planted 2.5 years ago and is about to have its first fruit. I really hope the new owners of our house enjoy it, and that we plant new trees at our new house very soon. Oh those blossoms are pretty!

I’ve been stockpiling food, more than cleaning things out (because we’re moving an hour away from my favorite grocery stores and I can’t seem to help myself), but I did clean out the freezer and make this crisp…

It featured our backyard rhubarb, along with the last of our supply of Montana huckleberries from the in-laws and cranberries. Yum!

My husband snapped this photo of the back of our new house last week. We’re neighbors with a tulip garden—seriously.

This little one is keeping us really busy and entertained. She hates the sound of packing tape and bubble wrap and generally seems intent on making packing something that happens after she goes to sleep. So we’ve been blowing bubbles on the porch, shaking anything that shakes, dancing, going to the park to swing, and enjoying music. She loves to strum the guitar (even though I realize that it’s not a toy…I’m trying to teach her to be careful with it).

At nearly one, she’s already more musically inclined than I am!
