What the Prairie Looked Like

There is apparently only 1/10th of 1% of the original prairie left in Iowa, which is mind blowing—but we’re lucky that some folks in our state are doing the hard work of restoring some of it to it’s original beauty. And, even doing research to show how planting native grasses on areas where corn and soy can’t be grown can improve farming outputs.

We checked out some of this prairie out at the Central College field station over the weekend and I’m so glad we did. We’d all just turned the corner after a rough bout of sickness and needed the fresh air. Plus, it was so beautiful to see at this time of the year.

Little Linden liked it too—especially since there were birds galore and roosters and cows in the distance!
